Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)
Every relationship experiences moments of disconnection. Moments of disconnection are entirely normal (in fact, inevitable) in relationships.
That said: when you find yourselves having the same arguments over and over again, feeling chronically misunderstood, or wondering how you’ve become so distant from the person you love, it can feel very scary and very distressing because it legitimately is.
Even when both partners want things to feel better, it can be painstakingly difficult to break out of patterns that keep you feeling stuck.
This is where EFCT comes in.
I have advanced training and certification in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. EFCT is a warm, evidence-based approach that helps couples reconnect by understanding the emotions and attachment needs that drive their interactions. It helps couples break free from the patterns that block connection and relearn how to actually see each other and reach for each other. EFT makes connection possible again.
“In every relationship, the question is the same: Are you there for me?” — Dr. Sue Johnson, the founder of EFT on distilling the core underlying question of attachment needs.
Instead of focusing on who's right or wrong, we start by working together to identify the cycle the two of you get caught in and explore what each partner is truly longing for beneath the conflict.
As you begin to recognize these patterns, you'll learn to communicate your feelings and needs with greater openness and respond to one another with more understanding and compassion, instead of your go-to reactive moves. EFT is an experiential model, meaning we don’t just talk about what we could do differently next time. Instead, we take the risk of trying something new—something that will likely feel much more vulnerable—right in the therapy room, together. I’ll be there to guide and support you through this process of taking emotional risks every step of the way.
We’re not working towards “perfection” together, either. Rather than avoiding conflict or trying to eliminate it altogether, EFCT helps couples learn how to navigate disagreements in healthier ways when possible and REPAIR after conflict with empathy, accountability, and emotional responsiveness.
Over time, these experiences build greater trust, resilience, and a stronger sense of emotional safety within the relationship.
EFCT can help couples who are:
Feeling disconnected or emotionally distant
Stuck in recurring arguments or negative communication patterns
Rebuilding trust after hurt, betrayal, or infidelity
Navigating major life transitions or increased stress
Struggling to feel seen, heard, or understood by one another
Afraid they’ve lost “the spark” and feel disconnected from their desire
Wanting to strengthen communication, repair after conflict, and deepen emotional intimacy
My role is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where both partners feel heard and valued, and to help each partner develop the language and confidence to take emotional risks that lead to a stronger connection.
Together, we'll work to strengthen your emotional bond, deepen your understanding of one another, and create a relationship where both of you can feel safe, connected, and supported.
